Manchester United take on Liverpool this weekend in an early big clash of the season. Last campaign, we drew home and away against our rivals in the league, as well as knocking them out of the FA Cup with a 4-3 victory at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the club’s official programme, Kobbie Mainoo has talked up the importance of this weekend’s game.

For both of us, it’s a huge game so early in the season. I feel like it will have a big impact on how the start of the season will map out, because it’s such a big fixture, it will affect us. So yeh, we’ll have to prepare right and we’ll be ready for it.

Mainoo scored his first Old Trafford goal in the league draw against Liverpool, thanks to a dodgy penalty awarded to our opponents, but still has good memories of our matches against them last season. After Antony levelled the score for United in the cup game with three minutes left to play, Liverpool took the lead in extra time. Marcus Rashford equalised before Amad Diallo scored a 121st minute winner, which took us on to Wembley, and then saw us lift the cup after beating City.

That was a crazy game, probably one of the best games of last season. And then the other one, my first goal at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win that, but I still have fond memories from it.

Both games at Old Trafford, it was rocking. It was amazing. So that definitely helps us. It’s like a 12th man on the pitch for us when it’s like that, so we appreciate that.
