Manchester United signed Tyrell Malacia for just £13m this summer after Erik ten Hag had made it a priority to bring the left-back with him from Holland.

Luke Shaw started the opening two league games of the season, in the defeats against Brighton and Brentford, before Malacia was given his full debut against Liverpool. United have won every league game the Dutch has started and in an interview with Rijnmond he reveals he knew he had to make his mark on the team as soon as he was given an opportunity.

I wasn’t stressed then [at the start of the season]. I know what my qualities are. I knew that, in the end, I would be a good competitor for that position. If I got that one chance, I would have to grab it. The manager made the choice to let me start against Liverpool. Then you have to turn up.

Malacia is settled in quickly but has revealed that he has had a good feeling at the club since the moment he arrived. Having already played in wins against Liverpool and Arsenal, Malacia’s next game will likely be against Manchester City, and you can make a bet on the football results if you fancy us to win at the Etihad.

When I got there for the first time the feeling was really good. I got a warm welcome from the boys, the coaches and the staff. It felt good from the beginning. It’s a really big club. That stands out immediately. Mainly in the pre-season with the support in Thailand and Australia, the commercials that they have there. It is different from what I was used to at Feyenoord of course. I’m not easily impressed, I’m pretty down to earth, so I was able to adapt quickly.
