With surprising ease, United dominated against the Canaries and we managed to show that fact on the scoreboard as a 4-0 win came from Rashford at the double then Martial and Greenwood adding the gloss to the score line.
Red Mata
The biggest thing on show today was the increased level of quality in the final third when it came to passes especially. The decision to play Mata raised a few eyebrows before kick off but the doubters were banished by the 30th min as his inch perfect cross was turned in by Rashford. It wasn’t just the assists for the first and third goal, another cross headed in with aplomb by Martial, where the Spaniard displayed the added creative prowess. His passing was sharp when needed, more cultured during the periods when that was asked for. He combined well with all the attackers, the slickness helping them to pen Norwich in, as the visitors found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the home side. Mata was the clearest example but the midfield as a whole, in Fred and Matic, were helpful to the creative cause as the passes were zipping about the pitch, moving Norwich across to open up the spaces the forward men love to operate in
Them boys
The last 15 goals in the Premier League for the Red Devils have all been courtesy of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood. The pattern continued today as Rashford got two and the other two chipping in with a goal each. You could see from the get go that the English international was bang on it. He looked in the mood, as he brought out the flicks and tricks to dazzle the Old Trafford turf. Once on the right hand, he pulled out a flip flap before a cut back into the middle that wasn’t converted. Then the second time in the middle of the goal, where just a remarkable show of quick feet in tight areas almost got him an opportunity but he instead tried to play in Martial, who was far too close to get the ball under control that well. The touch at the back post and his confident penalty helped continue his great streak of goalscoring. In a change from the recent, Martial’s general play was pretty poor as he failed to hold up it well and didn’t connect well when he tried to link up with others but a great header will do enough to push that poor performance out of the memory. Greenwood’s goal was everything we have seen from the kid in the academy – shifting the ball into his left foot before going back across the keeper. That side netting finish seems to look like a trademark of his and long may we continue to see it.
