The club would no longer need the revenue generated by his sale to fund a move for a central midfielder due to the windfall they would receive from playing in the Champions League.
Retaining Fernandes would become a no-brainer. His experience would be invaluable in big European games and he would undoubtedly want to prove he can still perform at that level.
While SPL clubs can offer Fernandes untold riches, they cannot provide him with the sporting prestige that comes with playing in the Champions League.
Securing a top-four finish would probably end speculation about Fernandes’ future and transform the broader narrative around the club.
