After suffering what looked to be a horrific injury following a tackle from Middlesbrough’s Emanuel Pogatetz in the League Cup, Rodrigo Possebon played for United Reserves tonight. He was given gas as he was carried off the field, leading us to believe he’d broken his leg. However, tonight he made his come back in our 3-0 victory against The Richest Club In The World (TM) Reserves.

Ben Foster, Rafael Da Silva and Manucho were amongst the starting line-up, who had a relatively easy evening against our local rivals.

The ever impressive Tom Cleverley scored the first with less than half an hour played, beating Kasper Schmeichel from 20 yards out. Before the half was over, Schmeichel was called on twice more to make good saves from chances by Cleverley and Rafael.

With 56 minutes played, Richard Eckersley burst in to the box and won United a penalty, which Darron Gibson scored. Shaleum Logan was sent off for the body check that conceded the spot kick, meaning it was plain sailing for the reds from that point on.

With 63 minutes played, the game was put beyond any doubt after Manucho set up Possebon on the edge of the area, to drill the ball inside Schmeichel’s post. Our Angolan striker could have increased our lead to five goals, after an impressive display as our lone striker, if not for the great saves from the Great Dane’s son.

All in all, a good evening out for our lads, with several players targeting first team places over the coming season. Great to see Possebon back in action!
