Carlos Tevez has revealed that the Argentina manager, Diego Maradona, uses Manchester United’s winning mentality as inspiration for his team.
Maradona paid a visit to Manchester last November after being appointed and spent the day with our lads at Carrington. Clearly he was impressed with what he saw!
“From the moment I arrived, he has treated me with respect as a person,” said Tevez. “His greatest quality is that, for him, there are no star players – everyone is equal, whether they cost many millions or are a young player who hasn’t played many times for the team. Club and international football are very different, and Mr Ferguson and Maradona are also different personalities. But Maradona wants Argentina to show the same winning-mentality as we have at Manchester – he tells me this every time we see each other. He admires Ferguson’s ability to make his players into winners. At United, we have an amazing winning mentality because we are always so focused. Maradona knows this and wishes to see Argentina do the same.”
