Anthony Martial’s agent has today revealed to Sky Sports that the Frenchman wants to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.
Martial’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024, with the option of a further year, so United are under no pressure to sell him. The number of clubs who have the inclination and the funds to buy him are limited, although Newcastle have emerged as a rumoured side to be interested.
The French forward’s form has been fairly erratic at United during six years he’s been at Old Trafford. He enjoyed a fantastic debut season under Louis van Gaal but went off the boil in the Jose Mourinho years. His best campaign to date was the year before last under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he scored 23 goals in 48 appearances, but his form has taken a turn for the worse since then.
Martial has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season and while he’s had periods of injury, he’s still only managed three hours of football.
