The rumour mill is going crazy on the final day of the transfer window and the latest Manchester United player linked with a move away is Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has had a mixed time at Old Trafford. Bursting on to scene in 2015 under Louis van Gaal, coming off the bench to score on his debut against Liverpool, he went on to score 17 goals in all competitions. His next three seasons, under the Dutchman and Jose Mourinho, were largely disappointing, averaging just 10 goals a season.

However, he was given a new lease of life in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge, scoring 23 goals which is his best ever return. With anticipation over him finally becoming the player fans hoped he could be, last season was Martial’s worst to date, scoring just seven goals in and injury riddled campaign.

Regardless, Solskjaer opted to start Martial last weekend in our 1-1 draw with Southampton, and the Frenchman put in a dreadful shift. With an hour on the pitch, he managed just one off target shot and completed just four passes.

While Martial still has some support among the fanbase, many are keen for the club to cut ties and were happy to hear news he may be leaving the club before the window closes.

Reports suggest that super agent Jorge Mendes, who organised the deal to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, has been involved in trying to take Martial to PSG. Real Madrid haven’t given up on trying to sign Kylian Mbappe but presumably Martial would only be required if that transfer went through.
