Ahead of the League Cup final between Manchester United and Southampton, Jose Mourinho has discussed who would lift the trophy if we win today.
Mourinho acknowledges that Rooney is the club captain, whether he plays today or not, and doesn’t care whether he is the one to lift the trophy today, as long it’s a player in red.
Wayne is our captain. Whether he is playing or on the bench, whether he is on the bench and comes on, or whether he starts and leaves the pitch, he is always our captain.
I don’t care who lifts the cup – as long as we win. I don’t think Wayne cares. But he is our captain.
