Rumours over the past few months have suggested that David Moyes is keen to sell Rafael da Silva, having already got rid of his brother Fabio.

However, following today’s performance, Moyes took time to praise the Brazilian for his contribution.

“I’ve got to mention Rafa,” he said. “He picked out a great cross for Wayne’s goal and was involved in the build-up to the first one as well. He probably should have scored one or two himself maybe when he got around the back in the first half.”

Rafael won the freekick which lead to the first goal, after his quick feet left the defender for dead. It was also his inch perfect ball to Wayne Rooney that put us 2-0. He was incredibly unlucky not to score himself after a great reactionary save from Ben Foster put his header on to the crossbar.

He was subbed off in the second half for Nemanja Vidic as a precaution.

“I think he got a kick on the ankle,” added Moyes. “That is what I was told – he’d taken a kick in a tackle with 10 minutes to go. He was limping so I didn’t want to risk it any more.”
