His signing also now gives us the goal scoring poacher we need. With bringing in Valencia on the wing its important we have strikers who are going to actually be in the box when crosses come in. For all Rooneys, Berbas and Tevez class they all tended to drop way to deep during games. To may times last year we would put crosses in and nobody was there to get on the end of them, Owen now gives us an extra dimension up front.

And for the muppets who keep on banging on about his injury record take a look at Wes Browns past injuries. Hes still loved by Utd fans and has spent more time in the treatment room than anyone else and nobody saying hes shit because of it.

I cant believe some so called fans are already having a go at Owen cos he was wearing an umbro t-shirt. Whats next? You dont like his hair? Get behind the lad for fucks sake. He'll do a lot better for us if he has our support from day one

@ terry08anelka

I reckon Valencia will get the number 7 shirt, he's got all the natural attributes to develop into a world class winger he's got pace he's strong his crossing is fantastic and he knows how to beat a defender.
With the experience that he will get next season i think that he can go on to be as good as beckham and ronaldo have been in recent years, i knw a few ppl might laugh at that but i really do rate this guy.

I wasn't sure at first but the more i think about it the more i like it. I think he will do well. Although it will take me some time to get used to seeing him in a United shirt. He's one of ours now so lets get behind him and that includes you Scott.

^^^^Nah, can't agree. After Solskjaer wore it, we need someone more deserving of it, definitely NOT Owen.

That's still a fuckton more than Tevez gets.

hmm. a few days ago this would've never seemed possible, yet now he's a united player. if he stays injury free and score 20 next season, i'll be happy. if he doesn't, then, it's alright, free transfer anyway.

i think he should get number 32. just in case he flopped, but i hope not. i reckon fergie's looking for an attacking midfielder now. i say we get silva and give him the number 7.

Fergie is quite obviously switching back to a 4-4-2 with Rooney, Berba and Owen sharing the duties of the two strikers (neither of the latter two have the pace to play in a 4-3-3) On that basis, I think there is no need to worry about Wayne being pushed back out to the front left side. I sense the manager knows it is now time to make him the fulcrum of the team. I do hope he now becomes the penalty and free-kick taker. The sight of him standing over the ball at every dead ball situation with 'I saw my mate...' bellowing around Old Trafford would just be unbelievable!

Big shame thought that the counter-attacking/ roaming forward movement of the 4-3-3 Ronaldo/Tevez/Rooney era is over. It made 07/08 such a special, special year and not just for the trophies but for the way we played. I would therefore love to see Quieroz (who appears to have been responsible for this style of play) back at the club at some point.

After thinking about this all day, I've also come to the same conclusion as everyone else; He'll be a good signing, if he stays injury free that is and he'll atleast be somesort of role model for the younger players.

There is a chance that Carlos comes back. Portugal might not qualify for the World Cup & I think he might be looking for a job in Fall !

Here's one for you... He could be the first scouser to win the league in 19yrs!! :))

Or at least, a former Liverpool player.

I'm sure someone will prove me wrong... But regardless, I'm sure it would piss the dippers off even more!!

His first interview

I never considered him as an option as I thought Fergie would go for either Benzema (overpriced and overrated), Kun Aguero (overpriced), Franck Ribery (massively overrated and massively overpriced)

Hes "pulled a Larsson" as it were.

Nani, Valencia, Owen, Rooney, Berbatov, Tosic. What a choice!!!

I still dont feel well about this, theres just something wrong...

On the brightside hes free, and he cant be any worse at backing up Berbatov and Rooney than Welbeck and Macheda

Just as long as he plays as a BACK UP it would be completly wrong if he played him centre and Rooney out left, that would just be sick

Wayne wonder Rooney

Pellegrini is a class coach. He basically turned Villarreal into a top side in Spain.

That said, he'll completely fuck up at Real Madrid because I doubt he can handle the egos there, + I guarantee he didn't realise he'd be getting Kaka/Ronaldo etc.

I'm just wondering, is our financial situation starts to bite us ???? Are the glazers responsable for our lack of TRUE signing this summer or Sir Alex ferguson dosent want to be held for ransom??? for God's sake how on earth we missed on Benzema .

tbh its a suprise that real madrid havnt tried to lure mourinho to the berneubea with this neverending stack of cash they seem to be pulling out their arses, with that said Pellegrini is a top class coach although im not sure he went to madrid thinking hed be managing the likes of kaka benzema AND ronaldo.
Im sure he'd much rather try and build his own team like SAF has done time and time again.

well, what else can be said about saf taking a risk with a scouser.. ok he has the credentials on paper to at least bag a few goals for us this forthcomming season.. but has he still got the heart. if we can get behind him they way we did with smudger , then im sure we will all take a shine to the little fker :)

I think Fergie has brought him in as a direct replacement for Tevez.Carlitos played too deep for us continually looking for the ball!Whereas Owen plays up the field on the last defenders shoulders almost! So,for me he's a good signing!I wouldn't like him to have the 7 shirt or Valencia!I think Costa should wear it,He'll be the best player on the planet in the future, playing for the Champions of World football, both domestically for us and nationally for Brazil.I'd still like us to go for Sanchez too.

Sid you ever think you'd see the day that a player who will score for united and the united fans will cheer his name is on the door of anfaileds not so mega store holding the Riga cup over his head it's a great free signing for united and a dropkick in the teeth for the dippers

i think owen is a great signing.... a good stop gap for the next two years.... let macheda and welbeck develop into toop class strikers that we know they can become... benzema would have been great but i feel that then that would have stifled the growth of macheda who i believe is europe's next big thing.. so missing out on his is a bummer... owen is proven pedigree and lets hope this is the kick up the ass he needs to get back to his scoring ways!

plus how will he cope in england?

as for sanchez what do you think he will settle imediately.?

i dont think there is a lot of exciting players out there.

aguero yes but will he adapt? plus 51 mill pounds no way.
ribery maybe but i agree a bit overrated.
villa yes but he is no torres. a fit owen = villa.

apart from these no one really.

For all those who believe in the newspapers that we missed out on Benzema, please wear your glasses and find me any info that suggest we actually went for that guy. For me, I have never read anything at all to suggest we ever went for him. So we DID NOT lose out! And for a prick that he is, flirting with just about every club, I say I'd take Owen anyday over him
