Patrice Evra has lost his appeal to overturn a 5 match international ban imposed by the French Football Federation for his part in France’s shambolic World Cup stint.
“The Appeals High Commission, which met today to consider the appeal by the player Patrice Evra, has decided to confirm the five-match sanction for non-selection by Team France,” said a statement on the FFF official website.
Evra has already missed two games for his country and if the ban doesn’t include friendlies, our left-back wouldn’t be able to play until June 2011.
Of course I’m disappointed for him because clearly, after being named captain over the summer, the national team is important to him. But from our perspective, the decision to uphold the ban is very good news indeed.
