Angel Gomes became the youngest player to feature for Manchester United since Duncan Edwards when he made his debut at the end of the 2016-17 season. Fans had high hopes for him but we’ve barely seen him for the first team since then. Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is a huge supporter of bringing through youth, hasn’t given him many opportunities.

With his contract coming to an end, there were reports linking Gomes with moves to Chelsea and other European clubs, with him stalling on a new deal.

However, Solskjaer has today confirmed that Gomes looks likely to stay.

Angel is a top, top kid who we have had at the club for so may years. We’ve offered him a deal, hopefully he takes it. If not, I wish him all the best. Hopefully, from what I understand, it’s not too far away, so if not we wish him all the best.

A player who is certainly staying at the club, for the time being at least, is Odion Ighalo, whose loan move was extended recently. Shanghai Greenland Shenhua have agreed to the striker staying at United until January.

We’re delighted Odion is staying with us. We had a good convo with his club and Odion’s made a great impact when he came, so that’s very pleasing. He gives us another option up front, he is a goalscorer and what he does in and around the dressing room as well is great. I hope he’s going to continue and finish off what he has started.
