PFA Nominations A Joke – Where Are Nani and Berba? - Republik Of Mancunia: A Manchester United Blog

The shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award has been announced today and amazingly, Nani has been left off the list.

Nemanja Vidic, Samir “Naseri”, Gareth Bale, Carlos Tevez, Scott Parker and Charlie Adam will be fighting out, whilst the top goal scorer and the player with the most assists miss out.

Dimitar Berbatov has scored 20 goals in 28 games this season, none of these from the penalty spot. The only other striker in the list is Carlos Tevez, who has scored 19 goals in 30 games, however, 5 of those goals were scored from the penalty spot.

Then we have Nani, who has scored 9 league goals (14th) and has 16 assists (1st). Gareth Bale has 7 league goals and 1 assist whilst Samir Nasri has 9 league goals and 1 assist.

What worth are the PFA awards when the best players in the league don’t even make the shortlist?

In my view, these awards are for value to the team. Imaging Blackpool without Adams or Shitty without Tevez. Say what you want about either team or player, but value to club cann't be understated for either. That said it would be real travesty if either won.

I think it is fair that Vidic is on the list. Surely defenders all over the league recognize his quality and the fact that he has been essential to our success. Only person even remotely close is Edwin IMO, but keepers never make the list. I would have liked to see Berba, but could see folks thinking that with all his time on the bench he can't be viewed as our most valuable player.

This just reminds me of last year .Rooney nominated for both Player and young player. He wins player of the year but not young player of the year. i was like WHAT THE FUCK? how does he win the Best player OVERALL in the lge and then he doesn't win best young player? That is how stupid your FA is. LMAO!!!

Another outstanding display from Bale, he proved he was world class, ripping the Madrid defence to shreds....Oh no, wait, he had a few decent runs, but created nothing, just like he's done against United and Chelsea. 7 goals and 1 assist, is poor for a player who has been touted as world class. He's over rated just like the majority of the Spurs team.

I think there are quite obvious reasons for both of them being missing...

Berba - like it has been pointed out many times, but something you always seems to ignore, Berbatov scored 13 of his goals in 4 games, and away from home has gone missing quite a lot. Flashes of brilliance, with no consistency over the course of the season. We also have to bare in mind, these votes are taken in March, when he spent most if his time on the bench playing second fiddle to Chicho.

Nani - everyone outside of Man Utd hates this guy. Even most Utd fans would admit he is a bit of a prick for the way he dives about. There is no question that he has been the stand out player this season, its obvious for everyone, but as Oliver Holt pointed out, people dont like him, so they wont vote for him. Its the same as it was with Ronaldo, except when he won he was so far ahead of everyone else you couldnt vote for a different player.
