On September 11th 1999, Manchester United travelled to Anfield to take on Liverpool. United had become the first English team to winning the Treble just months before so had the bragging rights.

Liverpool fans responded by bragging about their league titles, the last of which had been won nine years previously. On one banner, they claimed “you’ll never beat that” with pictures of 18 Premier League trophies (a trophy they had never won, of course).

Jamie Carragher scored two own goals that day and we won 3-2.

Twelve years later, here we are, having beaten their record, and ready to lift our 19th title.

Well done lads.
