February 19th 2005: United won 2-0 on Rooney’s return to Goodison Park since leaving Everton to progress to the FA Cup semi-final. Roy Carroll with hit with an object thrown from the crowd, 30 fans were arrested and 5 police officers were injured.
August 13th 2005: Rooney scored United’s second goal in a 2-0 win on the opening day of the following season.
April 28th 2007: Rooney scored the goal to put United 3-2 ahead against Everton on one of my favourite days of the season ever. Having gone 2-0 down in the second half, whilst Chelsea were beating Bolton, United came back in extraordinary fashion to win 4-2 and get one hand on the first title since 2003. The game was capped up with some nice showboating from Rooney by the corner flag as he looked for the time to trickle down.
October 25th 2008: Rooney had a frustrating afternoon in this 1-1 draw and was subbed off with 20 minutes to play for fear he would be sent off. After receiving a harsh yellow card for nothing challenge Arteta, Rooney responded to cheers and jeers from the crowd by kissing his badge. The referee had a word with Rooney about his behaviour, leading the manager to bring him off.
