We have a winger. Now we need a striker and a midfielder. Expecting fergie to hopefully make a move in the next two weeks for benzema.

The Number 7 Shirt should remain unallocated for the coming season.

Welcome to OT.
Technically Carrington, but it's okay.
I don't think he should have number 7 - nothing against the lad, it's just that i think it should be retired or something.
Beckham, Cantona, Best, Ronaldo. I can't see anyone filling the boots of such greats.

Yeah, getting an attacking winger will stop us scoring. How the fuck do u work that out. Idiot.

Welcome to OT Antonio. You'll shine.

I think we should retire the no.32 jersey out of "disrepect"

I agree that he should not be given the #7 jersey. I think he's a great signing and I'm sure SAF knows what he's doing, but I would hate to see some kind of transfer bust playing with that number on his back. I agree that it should be left out for the season (barring some mysterious miracle signing) and I would not be against retiring it either, it deserves that respect.

If Ronaldo would have retired after years and years at some age of 35 at MU, then we should have retired his N7 shirt... As it stands, the shirt deserves a new owner.

good one rc7!

beckham didn't get #7 until cantona retired. there's no need to give it to a new player, let someone prove themselves worthy, then can have #7. unless we get benzema...?

Number 7 should stay vacant. We don't want to do an Arsenal and give a great attacking number to a dodgy defender, do we? =P

Fuck retiring the number 7 shirt. It is one that has a great history of players at United and is there for the next star to "grow" in to. Our number 7 is usually "hated" by our rivals and this is a good thing.

Welcome Antonio, can't wait to see the lad next season. A "proper" player and fair play to him.

Irishred: Why the negativity?

Agree with King Eric, you can't retire the number 7, it is legendary and ready for the next special talent to wear it accordingly. I have no idea who that talent is, however!

Oh, and welcome to the Theatre of Dreams, Mr Valencia and good luck.

About retiring any shirt number, I remember Fergie was asked when we were in Asia for the WCC and he categorically said HELL NO.

if we retired a number for every legend which has had that number we would be in the thousands weve got history unlike the rent boys down south welcome antonio good luck lad

I don't mean to be all girly, but this guy is pretty good looking.
Anyway, I'm happy with this and I feel like he has a really good attitude and wants to prove his worth. The talent is there, as well as the 'footballing brain.'

As for what number he gets, it doesn't really matter. Fergie knows what he's doing with the number 7 shirt, he's never given it to someone who hasn't deserved it. Silly idea to retire it.

It's Nani's twin. Commentators will have a field day figuring out who has the ball when the twins, nani and Valencia are all playin.

Benzema deal looks very much on.

Benzema is a fantastic player so in alot of ways i hope your right and i'd welcome him to Old Trafford without a doubt but i cant help but think that we're just creating another ronaldo situation that we will have to deal with in 3 or 4 years time.

If he does come i hope its because he genuinely wants to be at our club and has forgotten all about playing in spain.

Anyway Valencia, top signing. His speed and assists will definatly help our strikers, hope Berbatov shines this season.

leave the No. 7 to Benzema and pick another number for Valencia (although our squad number seems to be completely filled up all the way from 1-25 already). Benzema has so many qualities that are similar to King Eric. He's french, he's a good striker, and I guess he, not Valencia, is the worthy successor of the "7".

I have to say, I like the cut of his jib as a player. Strong, fast. He will only get better at Utd and so will his goal scoring return..

Hopefully Benz and Sanchez will follow.

alright, i know nani was a bit of a dissappointment last season, but how come we are so quick to forget all he did the season before, if u ask me let him and valencia fight it out for the number 7 jersey, on their best days, nani is way better than valencia
whose with me?

United77777 July 2, 2009
I don't know why you all think that nani is so good, he has done nothing to impress me, he hogs the ball and his shooting isnt exactly top class

Rooney to shine next season, can run past people pick out passes and score screamers and tap-ins, was overshadowed by Ronaldo and often helped him get his goals.

As a United fan i have to say that Vlencia is a great signing but as for his number defo not #7 that would be a very silly mistake! i reckon allow a player to grow into no 7 ... Tosic looks great saw a couple of reserve matches and he is really good.. i reckon Tosic on the left Valencia on the right with Benzema play just off Rooney and Berbatov.. but then look out for Douglas Costa if SAF signs him we have Scholes covered to... As for losing Ronaldo and Tevez good ridence United are better without u ..
