no. why would we want to keep someone who's mind is somewhere else? Now we have to pay his salary until he leaves and we aren't going to get much from him. And the biggest thing is that now we have to deal with this saga for longer.

United just released a statement regarding DeGea. It confirms that the fascist club is bull shitting all along, and did not really want to sign DeGea yesterday after all, letting the deadline pass and then blaming United.

Otherwise, unless DdG commits to the club, I do not think that he should play. Perhaps mLVG will reconcile with him and play him. He is better than Romero.

ManUtd hits back at Madrid
http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/manchester-united-statement-in-response-to-real-madrid-comments-on-david-de-gea-transfer.aspx

- Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell.

- No offer was received for David until yesterday.

"Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player."

Looking athe statement , Madrid wanted to keep hold of Navas and also secure de gea. They were acting smart but made a big mistake there. Its a shame that such club can stoop so low.

as far as I see it Madrid acted like they don't care that much about him. Maybe he will see this and change his mind about going. If not it doesn't really make much of a difference the transfer didn't go through - don't get why people are annoyed about it

Yes - I agree with Scott that he needs to sign a new contract with £50M buy out clause otherwise he will be sub and that is last thing he needs with euros coming up - Madrid will be back

My understanding :
- First Madrid tried to unsettle the player by leaking things into media. It all started last season and carried on in this window.
- they thought that as ddg had only one year remaining in his contract ManUtd will sell cheap.
- They didn't put any formal bid but discussed things unofficially with ManUtd to further unsettle the player and eventually forcing ManUtd to sell the "unhappy" player.
- Contrary to their perception Lord Woodward and LVG's "monster" ego did not budge.
- Now on deadline they were in a situation where they wanted the player but were wary of FANS' reaction if they sell Navas.
- Perez got the "perfect idea" why dont submit a late bid then delay it deliberately and not let the transfer happen. Reasons :
1. Perez didnt want fans' backlash over Navas' sale.
2. Put all the blame on ManUtd so that they look good in the eyes of (a)their fans' (who wanted ddg) and (b) DDG
3. To get DDG for free next year and also keep Navas.
4. Maintain their supremacy/legacy in transfer dealings.

But they forgot one thing amidst all - they were dealing with Manchester United. We are not Arsenal we are not chelsea, we are not PSG, we are not pool. We are Manchester United. We deal on our terms.

ManUtd has thwarted RM by this classy statement on its official site. Its a sign of a rivalry between two giant clubs in the world and good part is that it has just started. ;) GGMU

Yes I am excited! De Gea could play this year for us or not, but I could care less. This was about standing up to Madrid and making sure they don't get there way. For me this all started with Becks and they got him cheap at the time. Then they got RVN cheap and Heinze cheap and moved in for Ronaldo which that deal looks cheap too now. Madrid is used to getting what they want from us and it is time to stop. Glad it is ending, now in few years they will think twice about calling for Memphis, Shaw or one of our future world class stars

Rinaldo was sold for pennies, in today's market, a 25 year old Ronaldo would be worth 200million pounds.

Mixed feelings here. If DDG now looks at the whole scenario all over again, he will see that they actually don`t care about him that much. So if he is smart enough to figure it out, he will surely sign a new contract. If not, then I don`t think he really belongs here....despite his qualities.

Whatever he does next, he should speak out like a man and not let others speak or think for him. I always thought, before this whole saga, that he likes it here and wants to be here at United. Then got a feeling like something or someone made him change his mind. Bloody whisperers :)

Red,

It's the tart he has in tow that is pulling the strings, a bit like Mrs Beckham.

The ball is in his court now .

He needs to grow a pair !

And now Navas has been given time off by his national team. So he is unsettled by RM's treatment ;)
In your arse RM

Dwayne - that is why I said we sold Ronaldo for cheap on that deal too. My point was Madrid gets whatever they want from us and we have bent over for them for years. It stopped yesterday and I am damn proud to be a red today whether De gea plays or not.

You can't please everyone, but we should be happy.

Imagine we got to keep Ronaldo for one more year or even Fergie, the pro's outweigh the con's.

With a focused De Gea and if LVG keeps his word, we are fully capable of mounting a title challenge, whether we will is another question.

But without De Gea, without a shadow of doubt, we would incapable of mounting a title challenge and thats definitive, you don't lose ability like De Gea, Ronaldo or Beckham and not suffer in some way as a result.

Happy he''s here, I hope things fall together rather fall apart and I hope LVG and DDG put this aside for 9 months for the best of both parties. I hope the Phelowsofy isn't consulted and the world best keeper playing is not lenghtly 12 month process.

Well put. He has to speak up now, if he still manages to stay quite and act like nothing has happened then seriously I cant defend the boy. I have to admit I dont want to hate the boy, I have been his big fan and am still and am ready to forget everything but please be open. I will even go on and say dont sign an extension but dont stay silent keep everyone under cloud. Be frank and say " I want to join Real Madrid on July 1, 2016 till then I want to win some trophies with Manchester UNited" Not at all tough to say that, many will appreciate that. Do that but no hiding behind people please.

At this point. DDG stay or not doesn't really matter to me. The only scenario that is beneficial to us is if DDG gets his head right and play well for this last full season, and we take this entire season to go out there and identify who is the real successor. If DDG even has an inkling of leaving in Janurary, then he should rot in the reserve

To be honest, De Gea is finished at Old Trafford. It's not even Rooney's case, it's the Virus he told before he won't sign for even for an in blanco contract. The only thing now is to make him sign a contract with a proper release fee clausule and then offload to Madrid ASAP, maybe even during the winter window.

On the other hand, there's this whole van Gaal philosophy which seems to do more harm than good to the club and maybe it's the right moment to consider if we can afford two more seasons under him.

I'm maintaining my NO stance coz if he had signed for RM all this would be over. I would probably be googling compilations of Navas saves. As it is the saga continues, will he start? will he sign a new contract, will the club arm twist him with reserve team duties, will his head be screwed on? will he fall out with LvG, if he makes an honest mistake questions will still be raised. So yes I wish this was over coz next year he is definitely off. We could have been better off moving on already.

I'm not happy to have this de geanonsense still hanging over us.i would have preferred to have had navas and send that ungrateful prick to where he belongs.personally,i wish we had the luxury of letting him riot in the reserve but we can't afford it because romero is an accident waiting to happen.can't understand why we didn't sign a solid, proven pl keeper like begovic, when this traitor was busy engineering a move to the virus.romero?

Has to sign a new deal first before I can decide whether I am happy that he is here or not/ But for now, I'm not happy. He doesn't want to be here, his head is not here and will probably not be here for the entire season. What is the point? If only Real Madrid were more competent. Sigh.

Whatever the wrong doings of Madrid and the sly way De Gea has tried to engineer his way out, all of Van Gaal's years of experience should have taught him to get this sorted before the last day of the window. There's no way he and the club couldn't have anticipated the manner in which this would have impacted onto the team, as it will inevitably now happen. To add insult to injury, our hapless manager pinpointed his replacement in the form of a second choice, run of the mill Italian side.

For a manager reputed to be meticulous in his forward planning, LVG doesn't half drop some absolute pearls!!!

Martial reckons: "He (Van Gaal) asked me my preferred position. I prefer to play in the centre but he told me I could play in a number of positions - it is the coach who decides"

Classic Van Gaal!

How is anyone pleased that he is staying ??? He is staying against his will. He might be the professional sportsman that we read in the news but he didn't want to stay. Which is understandable and he should have been let free. Goalkeepers will, inevitably, face criticism even for the slightest of mistakes and if De Gea manages to pull something like that off, then God save the kiddo !

@dreaded ....he'll be playing centre back before christmas.

As for DDG...I voted no...head not here...heart not here.
He'll sign a new contract...only if LvG reinstates him as number 1.
He'll still go to Madrid next summer and we'll get a good price.
It's in his interests....United's interests, Spain's interests and Mendes interests,
and Madrid's interests...they'll get a big money marquee signing next summer.
Spain's no. 1 goalkeeper and plenty of press about it.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't happen.
