Guardiola is gone. United don't have the structure to hire a manager who likes playing it safe. City will provide him with more money and more top class players from the off, so that's where he'll go.

Sack LVG and hire Jose now. It's the only viable option we have left.

Never thought i'd be alive to witness the day a worldclass manager would snub us for the bitters.
All those idiots who cheered on moyes, cheer on lvg and are hoping giggs get the job for romantic effects, you are part of what has brought us down to this mediocrity. Congrats hope you enjoying the bed you've made.

'There is this regular myth perpetuated on here as well as in a lot of football circles that Jose Mourinho’s teams regularly play boring football. In Mourinho’s four full seasons at Chelsea, his team was in the top 3 in scoring every single season. At Real Madrid, his team set the club record (and at the time, the La Liga record) for most goals by one team in a single season with 109 goals en route to the teams ONLY league title in 7 years. His Inter Milan team was the highest scoring team in Italy en route to a historic treble. This is not to say that Mourinho cannot be boring. Of course Mourinho can be very boring at times as he is an extremely pragmatic man…. just like another legendary manager who used to manage Manchester United.'

people shouting for pep need to just step back and look at the overall picture. peps teams play the same way as LVG was trying to get us to play.whats more LVG has had success with this playing style at bayern and barca, just like pep. now pep is expected to come to the premier league and suddenly it will work? wenger has been trying to get this style to work for a decade and only has a couple of cups to show for it. city are playing with fire, moving on a good manager in pellegrini who has brought them success and could win them the league this season for a manager who hasnt ever been fully tested in his managerial career whos playing style has been proved not to work in the premier league. this could all fairly easily blow up in their face.

The bleeding has to be stopped, the longer this drags on the worse its going to get....

If he wants to salvage his pride then he should do the honorable thing and submit his resignation

trevor - that is absolutely it. i think alot of us, myself included until he got fired by chesea, are letting our opinions of someone cloud our judgement. all you have to do is see how much the chelsea fans love him to see how popular he is when he is one of your own.. they even booed some of their players due to rumours they were wanting him gone!

mourinho has something to prove, he has vast experience but is still very young in managerial years. this could be one of the best appointments in recent times for us. i genuinely believe he wont cause some kind of issue in the dressing room. what gets his back up is when people go against what he asks for, most recently being he wanted a CDM and CB in the transfer market (pogba, stones), and the owner bought him a winger from barcelona (pedro)! that wont happen at united, we have the money to bring in basically anyone and we have never gone over our manager to bring in someone the hierarchy thought was a better option.at united he can take over the seat, ask for what he wants then get his head down to get the team right

Dan,

There is a reason for his dismissal from Chelsea, and it isn't bad results .

I think he has put himself in a position of availability, and something must have been going on behind the scenes to make him do this.

Also, I think United are the club he has yearned to manage in England, and he seems settled here .

I think he will be our next manager, and I have a feeling I will have (I hope) egg on my face about the comments I've made about him since his Porto days .

And let's be honest, can it get any gloomier than it is ?

trevor - his dismissal from chelsea is cause they have an owner who constantly undermines the manager and a squad who is closer to the owner then the manager, meaning being dropped by the manager is difficult as the owner wont be happy

dont get me wrong, he caused issues, the main one being the doctor case. but that showed his win at all costs attitude. hazard went down faking an injury to get a free kick, the ref called his bluff and called the medical staff on and mou was pissed. but this is a guy who has been completely undermined this season despite bringing success back to chelsea, i think hes extremely under appreciated at chelsea

i cant believe people genuinely believe in appointing giggs. dont get me wrong its the fairytale for all of us, and i feel it could be something which will happen in the future but not now!

so he played under SAF? .. so did solskjaer, lets give him the job. roy keane? mark hughes? ooh maybe steve bruce?! they all have more experience then giggs and played under SAF, and as all of you feel playing under SAF is enough to warrant the job, why not try the ones with a bit more experience first?

giggs has been taught under moyes and LVG? .. urmm, both were unpopular managers playing a style no one enjoyed. so yeah its great his managerial lessons have been largely what not to do!

for me, the only way giggs will be a suitable manager for the united hot seat is to go down the route of luis enrique. he managed the reserves, then went off to another 2 cubs and got his chance after gaining real experience of being a manager by putting what he learnt as an assistant into practice

Ok guys, here is my alternative for our manager. I`m probably going to get blasted for it but just hear me out first...

I know most of you want Maureen to come to rescue and it seems to be a very logical decision right now but hiring him goes against the vision and identity of the club. He will probably bring short term success but at the same time he will destroy everything we stand for...or not. There is a slight chance that he can change as a person and adapt to project like United but it so hard to believe this to be the case.

That being said, most of us ask who can be the alternative. Well we could use a manager that has a successful history record, can be loyal to the club and players but can at the same time value quality above loyality and is not afraid to put things in motion. Someone who can handle the pressure and the media and have a clear vision how football should be played but can adapt to get results if necessary and resume his idea later. Someone who can spot talents and persuade them to join their club and has respectful relationship with the players and decent training methods to achieve what he wants. So I think we should look no further than Roberto Martinez.

He has it all except a big collection of trophies but you have to understand that it is hard to achieve something with managing low level clubs yet he won FA cup beating our noisy neighbours. Moreover, he is used to pressure as he was battling against relegation 4 times in a row. I could say this is a similar type of pressure as battling for champions and he did a great job keeping them above the water for as long as he could as they were bound to drown with the investments they made into the club. For what is worth, he also laid foundations for Swansea previously and led them to Championship by winning league one. He almost immediately jumped to premier league next year with achieveing 8th place but it was too big of a leap to make.

As for football being played, his teams were playing some impressive football despite all the missing quality needed, they could still pull off some impressive results against giants. But in his career he was forced to adapt a lot due to sole desire of progress and survival so he is used to that. He also spotted some talents like Ashely Williams, Franco di Santo, James McCarthy, Shaun Maloney, Romelu lukaku and they all had good records under his management. You are probably thinking that none of these players would make it to United with exception of Lukako but again understand that he had a very limited resources and was at a club no star would come. .

He is also very down to earth persona and most of the time knows where the problem lies, he is even not afraid to put a blame on players if they truly deserve it. He is said to show his anger at them behind close doors. He is also very loyal manager and handles the media well. At Everton he even handled a big ego named Samuel Eto`o where the ex superstar was in constant dispute with Martinez over training methods. So he sold him. Sometimes his training methods may be a bit unconventional and even called boring or double sessions like in Moyes times so this is a downside of it. He even replaced some of the staff that objected it. But that doesn`t make him lose the dressing room or at least it has not happened yet becuase supposedly he make them know clearly why they are doing it.

So all in all, I wanted him after Moyes but we got LVG. I`m not sure how it would work out but he blends in to our way of doing things. Has charisma, knows the feeling of pressure, is respected by players, can keep and work with youngsters, can handle media, has a clear vision of what entertaining and attacking football looks like, can adapt fast and spot talent. His flaws are lack of experience at the highest level and being level-headed when it comes to punishing his team with double sessions. But he did beat shitty to win FA in 2013, that has to count for something :) Imagine what he could do with this team at United right now or 250 mil warchest.

Now, after reading all this, you can have a go at me :)

redone - i have to admit i havnt read your entire comment/essay haha. but i feel i got the jist of it.

martinez is a very logical choice in terms of what he is all about as a manager. but, us bringing him in would be his first big opportunity .. which is what we gave to moyes. it would be stupid for me to draw comparisons between moyes and martinez simply because we gave them their first oportunity - and it just so happens both came from everton. BUT, the press are so pathetic they will jump on that link from the get go. and im not entirely sure the club will be able to do too well under that kind of media shit storm again.

but, if you are a fan of martinez, like i am, my guess would be that he could be the one to take over at atletico madrid if chelsea get simeone. and as i am a bit of a fan of atletico madrid it would make me quite happy

Well the press would be all over it but they couldn`t get over one major obstacle which is that Martinez was able to do something extraordinary what Moyes couldn`t with much wealthier and better structured club, not to mention he had more time to do so. He also had no experience feeling a pressure but that`s something no one would even care to mention.

I hope he does something with Everton, like winning a league cup or something so he gets noticed by Woody boy.

Look, I don't necessarily want MO here for reasons, I've mentioned, but will definitely back him if he comes. I will also hope that he buys into the Manchester United mentality. If he does, we could be fantastic in fairly short order.

@RedOne, thank you for mentioning Martinez! He slipped my mind, but the second you mentioned him I agreed. I like him the most because he youngish, on the rise, not yet fully recognized, and adaptable.

I like his level of intelligence and adaptability. I think he could do well with the resources at his disposal. I think he is more of a "David Moyes" pick than David Moyes. That's not an insult, but rather I think SAF had a mental narrative and impression of Moyes that Martinez is a lot more likely to live up to.

Mo or Martinez should not/could not? coach this season, but I would love for us to have this sorted before the new year.
