Why would Rooney change from 8 to 10 to 7? Completely daft. The number 10 shirt is iconic enough, especially for a striker. Law, Hughes, Teddy, RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD.

its ok giving it to valencia but in my opinion the number 7 shirt has always been givin to the game changin star...valencia isnt really a game changer...hes a type of player who u will remember as a good hard workin player but the likes of ronaldo, becks, robson etc..they are remembered as the legends who gave evrything for united and won united games on there own at times.....but i do like valencia just not sure hes a no 7

New signing; or, if not possible:

Valencia, Nani, or maybe Welbeck. Or even Chicharito?

I've been at every home game, which is where the great SAF seems to take most chances with his choice of teams. Anyone who witnessed the midfield pairing of Park and Fabio and the unimpressive Fryers in defence will know that beneath our first team there is little quality. We need a batch of youngsters to make sudden and unexpected progress (unlikely). We need Pogba to stay and continue his promising development (also unlikely). Or we need the Glazers to finance 5 major signings - 2 fbs, 2 mfs, 1gs (very unlikely). Not feeling optmistic.

Jonny Sevens has looked good bringing the ball out of defense, and continuing his runs into the box drawing defenders. He's been scoring and assisting as well. A natural No. 7 just waiting for his chance to emerge from our shadow defense and light up the midfield.

Give it up for Jonny Sevens, our heaven-sent legend-to-be!

I cant understand why everyones saying hazard is a guaranteed signing for city. This summer seems to be a clear out for them. If they dont free up their wage bill and end up making a loss next season then they wont be allowed in european competition the season after cause of financial fair play.

Rooney does not like the number, he is better of with what he has, Hazard is not sure of where he wants to play, Nani does not fit in it bse of his selfishness, Velencia is too humble to manage it, I therefore see none taking it up, unless you buy Gareth Bale who is unlikely to ever play for united, PLIZ rest the number till the right player comes for it, its natural, to forced.

a possible transfer target is a dutch striker, not rvp but hes fellow countrymen jean-klass huntelar wht do u think? in addition to him i would get modric (50m is effin steep) and kagwa/hazard and defensively cissokho or jan vertoghen. o yeah! eriksen is another good prospect as well. with these signings mansh-tty r gonna be our bi--es 4 a long time!

@bigphil2003

This year's Valencia love-in (don't get me wrong I fuckin adore the guy), coupled with Nani's injury, I suspect has led people to forget how fuckin good Nani is. Hope he tears shit up again next season like he did in 2010-11.

Are these people who are saying give it to hazard the same people who were asking whether we should win the league at the etihad or win it early and have a guard of honour at the etihad instead? Hazard can suck my plums! It's ridiculously apparent that he's going to city. A player who had agreed to sign for United wouldn't be coming out with the kind of wanky arsed statements he is and would have been told by Sir Alex to keep shtum! A player who has agreed to sign for city would however come out with wanly arsed statements and would be encouraged to by their cunt of a club. Remember the Dzeko and Aguero etc comments. Fucking small time. So.. Less of the Hazard love in!

well, not just no 7, we also going to need new no 9 (or just gave it to danny), new no 8 (midfield playmaker), new no 2 (rafael would do). I don't want Nani to live in ronaldo's shadow when given no 7.

Give it to me!

Owen never should have worn it. It should be given to someone with flair, influence and a lot of talent who can change a big game. At the moment, I don't feel we have anyone deserving enough to wear the shirt and do it justice.

Am afraid but he's not going to be from within the club guys, and there is only worthy contender from outside except the great Becks & CR7 themselves is EDEN HAZARD!!!

I really don't know who should get the famous number 7 shirt. If Fergue buys Kagawa AND Gaitan, we won't be seeing Hazard at our club next season. That's what I think personally. Before this season ended, I was adamant that we were going to get 2 big name midfielders. But now that Owen have gone and Berbatov likely to follow..... Perhaps a new striker.? Or do we try out Will Keane.? In a perfect world, we would sign Kagawa, Hazard, Modric and a top striker... As for the number 7 shirt.... David Villa anyone.?

New signing, but NOT Hazard. He's not really a type of United player. All this bullshit about playing in Manchester, loving red and blue color, all this shite. Who do he thinks he is, new and better Cantona? Totally unprofessional. He will sign for City but anyway go to Real or Barcelona in 2-3 years time

Give No.7 to Wayne Rooney. He's a leader by example & incredible presence on the pitch, just like Cantona, Beckham & Ronaldo. Then Give the vacant No.10 to Wesley Sneijder ! He'll definately lower his salary & join us if we make an official transfer bid & offer No.10 Jersey ! It'll be perfect ! Imagine a midfield of Scholes, Carrick & Sneijder ! Wow !

Why would any current player want it, they have already established themselves in their current numbers. There is no way Nani would want the number 7 he wants to be a player in his own right and rightly so. Besides he wears his club number for Portugal. Like people have said before keep it for that special player, I teared my hair out when Owen got the number 7 no offence to the player. When I think of a United number 7 I get excited, you expect the player to be special. Robson, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo all had that special something. The number 7 shirt demands the amazing player and the fans definitely deserves it. Whoever gets the number 7 will deserve it and know they will have a lot to live up to.

Danny should have the 9 when it arrives back. If we do make a MF signing of any note it will probably go there. I really hope we don't get fed the shit about no value in the market, it's bad enough having to wait until City and Chelsea have left the floor.

No signing? Give it to Jones. He will end up in midfield when Smalling & Evans fight for Rio's place. Jones needs to grow, the shirt will buck him up

Why not Tom.Cleverley???BUT I suppose it's also gives "a new signing" extra incentive to join if Best, Giggs(at some point), Beckham, Robson & Ronaldo wore it.
