Rafael Da Silva was a favourite amongst the Manchester United fanbase, so Louis van Gaal’s decision to sell the right-back was not a popular one. The Brazilian was incredibly injury prone, but he wasn’t given much of a chance to fight for his first-place team.

Rafael has revealed that when he left United, he had the option of staying in England, but opted to turn those clubs down for a move to Lyon.

Consistency is everything in football. You get games, you feel better. You enjoy it more and your fitness is better. When you’ve not played for a long time it’s very hard for the player. I had some choices to go in England, but in the end I wanted to try something different. It’s good to challenge yourself.
