Ahead of Europa League game tomorrow night against Club Brugge, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told the media that it is likely Marcus Rashford will miss the rest of the Premier League season and even Euro 2020.

Rashford had been left on the bench for our FA Cup third round win over Wolves because of a back injury but, with the scoreline at 0-0 in the second half, he was brought on. 15 minutes later, with United ahead, he was forced off with the injury. He now has a double stress fracture in his back and has been wearing a girdle to help with the recovery.

Initially it was reported he would miss at least two months of the season but now it appears as though he may not play again this campaign.

I’m not a doctor but I was hoping he’d recover quicker than it actually looks like he’s going to be out for. He had a scan and it was maybe more severe, the fracture, than what we hoped. He felt fine in the days after. It just takes that time to recover. It is important we don’t rush him.” Says “if he is not fit enough he won’t go [to the Euros]. I would hope he’s playing this season but it’ll be touch and go towards the end.

This is such a frustrating situation for Rashford who was enjoying the best form of his career to date and certainly would have been in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up for the Euros. Despite not playing in the league this calendar year, he’s still the fifth highest scorer in the league.

Anthony Martial scored an important goal in our 2-0 win away to Chelsea this week and we’ll need plenty more of that if we are to climb in to the top four this season. New signing Odion Ighalo will now likely get plenty of opportunities to show what he is capable of but it’s a big ask that the rest of the team supply the goals that we’d hoped Rashford would have scored.

Rashford also offered an injury update on Paul Pogba, who has made just eight appearances for us in all competitions this season.

He’s not been part of team training yet so it’ll depend on when he feels ready to do that. He’s not anywhere near that yet.

This news comes as a surprise as on Monday Solskjaer claimed that Pogba would be training with the team the following day. His future at the club is increasingly in doubt following the behaviour of his agent Mino Raiola.
