Manchester United have been a “one man team” for several years now, according to some. When Ruud van Nistelrooy was at the club and scoring for fun, we were a one man team. Then Cristiano Ronaldo made us a one man team. Now it is Wayne Rooney. It is bizarre that these three players have all played in the same team, yet still we were a one man team.

Regardless, Frank Ribery has today again claimed that Rooney is carrying us this season.

“Rooney is carrying the United team this season,” said Ribery. “We must pay great attention to him. He’s having a tremendous season and I am happy for him. He’s a player I like a lot. He’s hungry. He gives everything for his team. He will tackle, he defends, he attacks, he scores goals. He’s full of confidence.”

Of course. We can forget the fact we’re the only team in the Premiership with two strikers in the top ten and that we have the best defensive record in the Premiership this season. The fact we have conceded fewer goals than any other side is down to Rooney, obviously.
