David Moyes has confirmed that Rio Ferdinand, Anderson, Fabio and Wilf Zaha haven’t travelled to Ukraine for tomorrow’s game against Shakhtar Donetsk. Both Zaha and Fabio played in last night’s U-21 game against Bolton so were never likely to be in contention.

Talking specifically about Rio, Moyes said: “I was never bringing him anyway but he has a slight groin problem.”

Michael Carrick attended the pre-match press conference and, despite Moyes’ claims United aren’t good enough to win the competition, he feels confident.

“In this competition, we’ve had a good start,” he said. “This is a tough place but we’re still confident going into the game.”
