Rio Ferdinand’s last yellow card, for both club or country, came on March 14th 2009, during our 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford for a foul on Dirk Kuyt.

That’s 53 appearances and 4515 minutes of football with a yellow card.

Whilst some of this might be down to his status as England captain (don’t forget he escaped a booking for giving away this foul on Jerome Thomas a denying a goalscoring opportunity) we shouldn’t discount Rio’s excellent positioning which means he isn’t required to make the last ditch tackles that Jamie Carragher and John Terry are hailed for.

In work last week I was asked to name a world class English player, I mean a top top player. I couldn't say Rooney cause obviously he's been gash and so I used a bit of a wild card in Rio and jusifiably so. Bearing in mind the question was posed by a bunch of ABUs. I was laughed out of the building even though my arguments were undeniable. His disciplinary record was one, his composure and grace on the ball is second to none for a CB and the team he plays for hasn't lost since he's returned to normal week in week out football. The only argument I got against Rio was he's a bit brittle these days but then thier argument that Jamie carragher is better put a sudden end to the debate. I refuse to deal with idiots!!!!

@Zelh ; Am surprised ,still until its done he might still do as Fergie had said earlier,playing in the premier league on loan. Still all concerned have said Fergie wants the lad at United.
