Rio Ferdinand last played a game of football back in May, turning out for England in a friendly ahead of the World Cup.

After picking up an injury in training before the competition started, Rio was forced to sit out and watch Steven Gerrard captain England through yet another embarrassing tournament.

This weekend, we might finally see him back in action for us. Nemanja Vidic, who has been given the captain’s armband for every game this season, has partnered Jonny Evans in defence so far. It is likely they will start again with the possibility of Rio coming off the bench, although Evans did miss international duty with a niggle.

“His training performances are so good, he’s in the squad,” Ferguson confirmed at the press conference today.

Should we expect Tweets from him at half time?

Everton will be without Saha, Anichebe, Rodwell and Yakubu, with Phil Neville also doubtful.
