Rio Ferdinand has revealed that when Manchester United won the League Cup the players didn’t even celebrate it. Talking on the Clare Balding Show, Ferdinand revealed that this mentality is what kept them so successful.
“We didn’t really celebrate a lot,” he said. “Sometimes we’d win a trophy, like we won the League Cup, and it was just sat in the corner because we had a game on the Tuesday, so we had to get back to Manchester on the train. No one’s drinking, no one’s having a party or enjoying it. We had just won the League Cup but no one really cares. Move on to the next one. I think that’s why we sustained a winning mentality because we didn’t dwell on winning something. We kept looking to the next one.”
