Juan Roman Riquelme, who retired in January, has told Mundo Deportivo that the only regret of his career is not signing for Manchester United.
When he was at Villarreal in 2006, United tried to sign him, but he turned Sir Alex Ferguson down to stay with the Spanish club.
The only thing I regret in my career was a decision that I took, when at the hotel in England before the semifinal with Arsenal, when Manchester United came to buy me and I said no. I stayed at Villarreal, because I was very comfortable with my teammates.
A year later, after falling out with the board of directors and manager Manuel Pellegrini, Riquelme returned to Boca Juniors.
