The Most Successful Ex-Red award
Nominees: Diego Forlan and Gerard Pique
Goals against Liverpool, both home and away, saw Forlan guide Atletico Madrid to the final of the UEFA Cup. He was named Man of the Match in their victorious UEFA Cup final, scoring both goals in their 2-1 win, the second of which coming just four minutes before the end of extra time and the start of penalties. He then went to the World Cup with Uruguay, scoring 5 goals, including goals in the quarter-final, semi-final and fourth place play off. He was presented with the Golden Ball award for being the tournament’s best player.
Gerard Pique helped his club, Barcelona, amass an incredible 99 points in La Liga in 2010. He scored Barca’s only goal of the game against Inter in the European Cup semi-final. He also scored the goal that should have put them in the European Cup final, but it was wrongly ruled out and his team were knocked out. He then went to the World Cup with Spain where he played in every game before going on to win the tournament.
Winner: Diego Forlan
