With all due respect mate, I would take Guillem Balagues word over the always wrong caught offside anyday of the week, if we sign Di Maria it will be a deadline day signing as Gary pointed out

without midfield reinforcements top 4 will look exactly end of season as it looks today.
let's get Vidal - worth the risk IMO, bigger risk not getting him -and so DiMaria.

i am not sure whether di maria is an answer to our problems.if he has to come, i see no reason of keeping young,kagawa and nani at the club. i see januzaj as our future no 10 and should be played as one even now(partnering mata in free role if need arises).

united also have enough of centre backs now with arrival of rojo and improvement of blackett; this is first season in which both jones and smalling will consistently be playing at CBs so we should give them time. evans is also there.

now focus shifts to central midfield. vidal's story has stretched too much for my liking and he will be nothing but silvas, thiagos and fabregases of yesteryear. carvalho is seemingly up for grabs but for crazy money (36 million). LVG, apparently, is keen to gamble for 6 months, on strootman who will not be cheap in jan.

fletcher should not be used now as box to box as it was conspicuous he drained out against swans pretty early. since carrick is out, fletcher should be the one who covers ground sideways (for wingbacks and out of position centre backs) rather than upwards and downwards. harreira's energy can be harnessed efficiently in box to box role. this is all assuming we do not get our preferred midfielders till end of august which looks highly probable.

If it's true that Van Gaal isn't going to pursue Di Maria because he fears it will hamper Januzaj's progress. Oh dear, what kind of nonsense is this. When all the other clubs who we claim to be amongst have either top quality proven ability players not just starting but in reserve, what sort of message does this send out, both to our supporters and the opposition?

The squad is bereft of anyone with pace and ingenuity out wide, exactly what Di Maria would bring. We've even 'gifted' Nani to Sporting for the season, helping out other teams while woefully neglecting our own. Just another example of how warped things at united have become.

Do the club and manager think we're completely daft? Just come out and say that we're pot less and unwilling to spend the necessary funds to turn around this rapid demise. Tell us straight United and stop providing us with the false hope that we're to take this season seriously when all the evidence suggests otherwise.

Khedira would improve our midfield options considerably, as would Vidal. Yet the excuses thrown up seem to be that their each seen as posing to much of a risk! WTF! Four dodgy knees between them wouldn't pose half the risk as the crazy money splashed out on the likes of Fellaini.

Paul Scholes has been the ONLY one associated with the club to have come out and said it EXACTLY as it is. Everyone else seems to have buried their heads in the sand waiting for LVG to pull something out of thin air with little more than magic beans.

"Following yesterday's news that Angel di Maria wants to leave Real Madrid, several papers are reporting that Manchester United will step up their interest, with The Sun claiming the Premier League club will go head-to-head with Paris St Germain for the Argentina international. However, the Daily Express reports that Louis van Gaal is concerned that bringing in Di Maria would hamper the development of United winger Adnan Januzaj."

LOL, The media is just making shit up now. The daily express has linked us with every player on the planet this year so far. They are opinion pieces masquerading as actual news. First, you link United to a player, like Vidal, and reprint every rumor you can find about it. Then when its not happening you make up some other shit and print that.... oh LvG is concerned about his knee, thats what it iis lol absolute bunch of crap. If we sign Di Maria it will be because we got the opportunity when he asked to leave... but it would appear we haven't lodged ANY bid for him yet at all, it's all made up crap.

you lot are overreacting. Without further signing in CM position we can still be in the top four. Tell me again, who are Liverpool's CMs? I can recall a lot of you guys dont really rate Henderson and a clearly old Gerrard. What makes their midfield better than ours. Yeah it's disappointing we lost our 1st game, but our pre-season wasnt a fluke either. Maybe I am too confident in Van Gaal but if he thinks Shaw, Herrera and Rojo are enough then we are good to go. We lost that match because of growing pains i.e the setpiece that led to the winning goal. A leader at the back is what we really need now. Hoping they mature really quick, or we might make a push for Benatia at the deadline.

@Scholes18

How can you say we have enough CBs? We currently have 4 (In which 3 aere injury prone) and we are playing 3 at the back, ideally we need 6 CBs but can get away with 5 for the time being which means another one is needed, Blackett is a LB playing CB because of lack of options.

@SebaLaBrujita

Pretty sure LVG has not given an interview saying signing Di Maria would effect Januzaj, so why comment on something which is more than likely bullshit, We still need another defender and 1 or 2 midfielders before signing the likes of Di Maria.

@Dela

Watching United in press the other day on MUTV, they are convinced that sources close to the club have said that United have continually said they have no interest in Vidal and its in fact Juventus who are desporate to sell and are using Uniteds name to get other clubs interested, Could his knee be totally fucked? Of course things can change very quickly in football.

Central midfielder can't stress it enough.
On another note it's it just me or does anyone else think Rooney upsets the team balance a little I know he gives his all and is capable of great things I fell if he's having an off day the team seems imbalanced.And sometimes players pass to him when there are better options with the exception of RVP dunno just an observation could be wrong.

Is anyone set to return in time for the trip to Sunderland?

Of the options available, I hope Jones is put in the middle of the park, rest Fletcher who still looks as weak as a kitten. I worry the lad's doing too much and he's going to affect his long term health. Hopefully things aren't too desperate that Cleverley is needed.

Looking forward to seeing Herrera again, the precision and economy with his passing is a lesson to all in this squad about not over complicating things. Will be relieved if we can somehow claw a point, all things considered.

Rumors gathering pace that LVG has told Welbeck he can leave. I just hope that is not true. Why would we tell Welbeck to leave and keep Hernandez who does absolute fuck all apart from goal hang? Welbeck is quite CLEARLY the better overall player and will contribute much more to this team than Hernandez will. Why are we telling Welbeck to go when Young, Anderson, Cleverley, Fellaini STILL remain at this club? It has to be a lie.

On another note, has anyone noticed the lack of spite, vile and unnecessary name calling on here the past few days owing to the absence of a certain someone?

I'm enjoying the constructive debates whilst not having to wade through the huge number of name calling irrelevance. Long may it last!

@danny loves sounds off just a rumour I would think its funny how we haven't really unloaded too many players though no takers perhaps.Chi cha would be good somewhere as Cleverly and Fellani no takers apparently.

@danny

Welbeck is a Manc and a better overall player, but he probably wants to play reguralry in the CF position and LVG can't guarantee him a spot with Rooney and RVP in the squad.

I think Welbeck wants to leave and LVG is letting him. It's sad, but these things happen. His situation somewhat resembles the Tevez one.

Valencia, Rafeal and Evans have all been training so expect peobably Valencia RWB and Evans to come in for sunday

@Danny

Come on mate, I never expected you to believe all these rumours, theirs no chance Welbeck will be leaving, none whatsoever.

Despite all these rumours of players coming and players leaving, all of them combined fail to be as far-fetched as if someone were to jump forward 3 months from the end of last season and read the squad list and team sheet going into the second game of the new season.

We could be in the market for a three legged donkey from scarborough and it wouldn't exceed the bafflement of our present situation!

@Tommy @1438, I sure hope you're right. I'd be extremely disappointed if LvG lets Welbeck leave. It's a definitely a no no for me, a local lad brought through our very own academy.
