Cristiano Ronaldo was named UEFA Player of the Year after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid again last season.

He was asked who he believed would inherit his thrown one day. Among a list of very high profile names, Ronaldo also named Marcus Rashford.

A very good question. I see some with great potential: Asensio, Mbappe, Neymar, Dembele, Hazard, Rashford … and some others. In the next generation there are at least 10 players with very, very great potential.

Ronaldo was also a part of the team that won the European Championships last summer, with Portugal triumphing over France in the final.

Every year is the same challenge – to win everything, if possible. With my club, the international team, we are not qualified [for the World Cup] yet, we have that to do.

I’m so glad to be here and win this trophy again. I have to say thank you to my team-mates, I’m so happy for them too.
