Ronaldo’s mam, Dolores Aveiro, hasn’t made many friends with United fans after previously claiming she wanted her son to play for Real Madrid. Not just that she wanted him to play in Spain but that she could die a happy lady once it had happened. No pressure there then, Ronnie!
“I don’t like English teams but I know I have to like them because he is at Manchester,” she said. “But for me… Real Madrid. Of all the foreign clubs, Real Madrid is the best. Before I die I would like him to play for Real Madrid. I would really like that and then I could die, it wouldn’t matter.”
Then a year later, in the midst of Ronaldo’s transfer speculation this summer, Ronaldo’s mum claimed that her son was staying put, which cheered us up.
Today, we hear from her again, making her probably the most vocal footballer’s mam out there!
“The teacher wanted me to tell him off,” she said, “but I didn’t punish him. He had to practice a lot to be a great footballer. If Cristiano hadn’t have become a professional footballer, he would have been lost. He would have certainly become a drug addict or something terrible like that.”
Really? Drug addict or professional footballer? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during on of Cristiano’s parents evenings!
