Wayne Rooney has today claimed that the last minute win against Manchester City has given the players the boost they needed in this title race. Whilst still dependent on Liverpool to take some points off Chelsea today, Rooney insists the players are desperate to see us go top once more to claim the title

“No one likes to watch games when you are supposed to be playing in them – I am no different. I want to play,” said Rooney. “We had a few bad results in a very short space of time, which was hard to take for everyone – the players, everyone at the club and the fans. Then, going into those last few minutes at City, we knew we were on the verge of being out of the title race. But getting the winner late on against your local rivals is an unbelievable feeling. It was a great victory and put a bit of pressure back on Chelsea. It’s been a mad season. Everyone has lost games and top spot has changed hands quite a bit. We’re just hoping it changes hands one more time. There have been plenty of ups and downs and it’s made it a more interesting season for the neutrals. But I’m not sure we’ve enjoyed all the twists and turns quite so much. All we are interested in is securing that top spot above Chelsea.”
