Wayne Rooney was awarded with 100th cap for England tonight and marked the occasion by scoring a goal to make him the 3rd joint highest scorer for his country.
It was a good day in the end. It was tough as they took the lead and we had to show character but it will be good for us. We haven’t faced that since the World Cup. It was a great reaction from the players to going behind. It really woke us up. I think you’re trying to get a yard and get a shot away. When you dribble in the box, there is always an opportunity of someone taking you down and the lad clipped my heels as I was about to shoot. It was a clear penalty and great to get a goal so early [after they scored]. We’ve got a good winning mentality. You’ve seen that after we’ve gone 1-0 down. We believe we’re going to win every game. It was a special night for me and a great honour to represent England 100 times with hopefully many more to come. To walk out with my two boys was something nobody can take away from me.
