In October, Wayne Rooney confirmed he would not be signing a contract extension with Manchester United because he didn’t feel as though the club matched his ambition.
Seven months later, United are on the cusp of winning a record 19th title and booking a place in their third European Cup final in four years.
Rooney has acknowledged how wrong he was to doubt the club.
“When I look back at it now, how wrong was I?” he said. “Obviously, I understand I made a mistake. I admitted that and I apologised for that. I’ve wanted to try to prove myself all over again to the United fans. I feel I’m doing that now. Hopefully, now I’m helping this team to be successful. It would be a great end to the season to be in a Champions League Final and to win the title. I’m very grateful to the fans for supporting me and I’m delighted with my form again.I hope that I’m proving myself through my displays. I’m 100 per cent committed to this club.”
