Wayne Rooney has spoken about how he felt after scoring the late winner against Liverpool last weekend, having waited 11 years since his last goal at Anfield.

Obviously, it was a great feeling to score the winning goal against Liverpool at Anfield. I haven’t scored there for many years and, the way the game was going, we didn’t play our best but we contained Liverpool and got the winner late on. It was an unbelievable feeling.

It’s nice when you’re scoring goals. I think sometimes, as a forward, you get into a rhythm and, thankfully, I’ve had some good chances in the last few weeks and I’ve managed to take them. Hopefully that continues. We feel we’re improving over the last few games. Against Liverpool, the performance wasn’t great but we knew it was going to be a tough game and all that mattered was getting the three points. We’ve done that and got some momentum behind us and now hopefully we can continue that against Southampton.
