Wayne Rooney has admitted that watching Everton beat Manchester United in the 1995 FA Cup final was his best day as a football fan.
“It’s the only club trophy that I haven’t won and it bothers me a little bit,” said Rooney. “I used to watch the FA Cup growing up and I was lucky enough to go to the final at the old Wembley in 1995 when Everton won it. That was my best day as a fan. As a player, I’ve been to two finals with Man United and lost them both. We should have won the Arsenal one. We battered them but couldn’t score and then lost on penalties. We also lost to Chelsea in extra-time in the other one so I’m gutted I haven’t won it but hopefully I’ll get another chance to do that.”
