Ryan Giggs was brought on as a 2nd half sub for Marouane Fellaini in tonight’s Champions League game between Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk.

As this is his 145th appearance in this competition, he has now broken the record for the number of appearance held by any player. He previously shared the record with Raul but since moving to the Qatari side Al Sadd Sports Club, he no longer plays in the Champions League.

Paolo Maldini (140) has the 3rd highest number of appearances, Xavi (139) is 4th, Clarence Seedorf is 5th (131) and Paul Scholes (130) is 6th.
