Paul Pogba put in a great performance for Manchester United on Saturday as we beat Inter Milan 1-0. With his agent confirming that the midfielder wanted to leave the club this summer, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly insisted he doesn’t want to happen, there were worries this might have an impact on the player’s form.

Still, both his former club, Juventus, and Real Madrid seem keen to tempt Pogba to their clubs, with the managers both speaking out about him this weekend.

Pogba scored against Maurizio Sarris’ Chelsea side to knock them out of the FA Cup last season and when talking to Football Italia, the manager confirmed this was a player he was keen on.

I really like Pogba. He’s a Manchester United player though. I’m not the sporting director, so I don’t know what the situation is.

When Zinedine Zidane was asked about Pogba, he claimed he wanted to show United respect, but made it clear that Real Madrid want to sign him.

We need to respect everybody, but the only thing I can say from the club is we know what we want to do. Something could happen before the end of August. We could have some changes.

While some United fans have argued we should get rid, given Pogba’s desire to leave, it’s worth remembering that we still haven’t replaced fellow midfielders Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. Can any faith be put in to Ed Woodward that he will be able to secure the signing of a top midfielder if Pogba was to leave? It seems unlikely.

With the transfer window close looming, United may well be better off doing all they can to cling on to Pogba for another season at least, and actually putting in some work to ensure we have a world class replacement ready for next summer.
