PICTURE: Schalke Fans Hand Out Neuer Protest Leaflets

Ahead of Schalke’s Bundesliga game at the weekend, Schalke fans were handing out leaflets protesting against their goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.

The rumoured United target has been with Schalke since he was 4-years-old but has confirmed that he will not be signing another contract with his boyhood club.

Bayern Munich are the likely destination, although their fans have shown their displeasure over the potential signing.

Schalke are Germany’s second-best supported club after Bayern Munich with 90,000 members. Their ground, Veltins-Arena, has a 61,000 capacity and the average attendance has not dropped below 60,000 since moving there ten years ago.

The fans were handing out leaflets which read: “As a goalkeeper Neuer is No 1, but as a human being he is zero”.

There were fans inside the ground protesting as well, with “do not go to Munich” and “you were a legend” signs.

However, there were some fans who were showing him support, with a banner which read “We like you whether you go or not.”

They lost the home game against lower placed Kaiserslautern 1-0 and are now 10th out of 18 in the league.

@Rai ... it's totally out of order. I am ashamed that some of these cunts actually call themselves United fans. You know, it's always been a bit of a joke that fans (of any club, in any sport) are "one-eyed", but that's the way it should be. Sure, we can have discussions amongst ourselves (though I think some of the slagging of our own players goes too far even then), but to take it out on the players themselves, that's disgusting and wrong. Makes them anti-fans, really.

Got to admit I am not in favor of players using Twitter or other 'social networking' sites, at least not if their accounts are publicly known. Even if our own fans behave themselves, they're bound to cop stick from rival fans, and who needs it?

Hammons ... personally, I reckon this "curse of the Germans" thing is a bunch of shite. There hasn't been nearly enough history for it to have any statistical validity, and frankly, results from 10 or 15 years ago are totally irrelevant to today's team.

Now, the Curse of the Bambino, that was much more compelling: up to 1918, the Boston Red Sox were the most successful baseball team, having won 5 of the 15 World Series that had been held up to that point. Then, in 1919, the Red Sox sold their star Babe "Bambino" Ruth to their most hated rivals, the Yankees. Prior to the sale, the Yankees had not even been to the World Series. However, after the sale, the Red Sox did not win a single World series for another 86 years, appearing in only four and losing all of them; over the same period of time, the Yankees appeared in 39 World Series and won 26 to become by far the most successful baseball team of all time.

Now that's a curse. Whereas this thing about us and the Germans, that's merely a quirk of history.

all talk of us taking schneider or this guy is complete and utter nonsense!!its just smoke and mirrors.as long as glazers are owners there's no way they gonna pay hefty sums of money fpr players. even more if fergie wins the double.they'll say you see you dont need to sign big players just get talented nobodies,change them to somebodies,win us titles and we sell them to make more money!
otherwise the stories of us getting these players are just emanating from their agents to just hype their clients tag price and interest!
