Manchester United take on Barcelona in the European Cup final next week and will do so without the services of Darren Fletcher, who was wrongly sent off in the semi-final against Arsenal.
Many people have likened Fletcher’s situation to that of Scholes’ in 1999 but the cases are not the same at all. As gutting as it must have been for Scholes, he could have no argument with his ban, whilst Fletcher has been robbed of his place in the team.
Scholes has today revealed that Fletcher hasn’t spoken to him about the ban.
“Darren has not spoken to me,” said Scholes. “It is just something you have to live with. We are all devastated for the lad and devastated he is not going to be in the team. The way he has played over the last few weeks has been amazing and more than anything, he will be a big loss for the team.”
