Manchester United came from 1-0 down to beat rivals Manchester City on derby day, as the run of great form under Erik ten Hag continues.
Luke Shaw has been used in the centre of defence with other options unavailable and Ten Hag opted to stick with him, despite coming up against the league’s top scorer, Erling Haaland. Shaw had the City striker in his back pocket all afternoon, with him managing just one off target shot over 90 minutes.
Shaw spoke to the club’s official site about his thoughts on the game.
[I’m] very happy. I think overall, we deserved to win. I think [in the] first half, we had a lot of chances. On another day we take them but I’m extremely proud of the team. Everyone out on the field today gave everything and, especially, the ones who came on and influenced the game, it’s a massive help that they’re ready to make an impact like they did today. I’m very happy and proud of the team today. As a team, we defended so, so well and I think it was, of course, a great game to be involved in. I think like I said already, everybody gave everything, and the most important thing today was the three points. No matter [who] the players are that we’re playing against, we always aim for three points and to keep climbing that table. We did that today and I’m very happy.
The home fans were in full voice and showed their appreciation for a gutsy performance which saw us turn a defeat in to victory with two goals in four minutes from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
It’s incredible. For me, I’ve been here a long time now, I think eight years. For me, today, the atmosphere was the best I’ve been involved in. It shows the fans are with us, they’re pushing us in the right direction, and I hope they really enjoyed it today. We love the atmosphere; we love them being there and we are glad to be making them happy again.
