Ahead of United’s crucial semi-final against Barcelona this evening, I am joining the manager and players in getting well behind the “Show Your Colours” campaign, in which United fans are all encouraged to bring scarves and flags with them tonight, singing as loudly as possible.

United fans travelling to Spain weren’t happy to be place in the top stand in a roofless ground, as the noise from the chants wasn’t given the same chance to fill the stadium. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Owen Hargreaves have backed United fans to produce an atmosphere to be proud of at Old Trafford, claiming ours will be better than what was heard at the Nou Camp.

Cristiano Ronaldo

“The Barcelona crowd is a very good crowd, it is a very good stadium,” he said. “It was the first time I had played there and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. But I think Manchester is better. Our fans are always fantastic, but over the last month they have been amazing. They have helped the team a lot. A good example of that was against Arsenal. The atmosphere was brilliant, the supporters were screaming and it really helped the players. I hope it carries on like that in the remaining games particularly against Barca. It makes you feel very good and proud and the motivation to succeed is high. My message to the supporters is keep it going because if you help us there will be some great results.”

Owen Hargreaves

“It was a lovely atmosphere, a great stadium,” he said, talking about the Nou Camp. “It was a bit quieter than I expected really. It’ll be great to go back to Old Trafford on Tuesday and that’ll be a proper atmosphere.”
