The argument is clear, Pogba ovet outstretched his leg to reach the ball while the pkayer blicking the view that was both not too conscious also very dangerous. I think its both honest and objective that it was a red card. I say this with all my love to Pogba but the lad need a lesson there, the referees sometimes take the consideration of certain physicality unique in some players. Pogba have a long leg and when he slides his legs like that he should be doubly conscious of where exactly he aims at. .for me the referee did crucial mistakes today but Pogba's one was correct I am afraid.

I’ll have to see the Pogba incident again to make an opinion.But it looked like he stepped on his on his calf not on purpose maybe,but refs don’t like that.

Yeah usually they do give it a red when its with the studs but wasnt intentional and also the foot wasnt high for me

But it balanced out since they didnt get the penalty they deserved and we didnt get a red for koscielny

Great gane indeed tha k goodness we got the win and are in the title race

Most people and pundits will say it's a read card. This is where things are not defined well in the rules. Things were moving on a fast pace, who would think Bellerin would defend by bending his knee? Replace that with a feet, it could have been nothing or yellow at its worst. I've seen cases where a defender was defending very low with his head and it got kicked, it was nastier but the argument was that his head was not in a regular perimeter.

Are we seeing the breakthrough of Lingard as a top class player? Every time he got the ball we looked dangerous and creative. He's scoring multiple goals and crucial goals, he's got great movement with and without the ball,we works hard and has good tactical awareness. For instance, I saw him getting fouled once in the first half when Arsenal were starting to heap pressure, in order to give the team a rest. Clearly he's best through the middle. Would be interesting to see his stats per minute played, as he's not been a reglar starter so far.

Am I the only one who thinks Lukaku's hold-up play with his back against the goal has been poor this season? He loses the ball way to much in this position.

His 2 hold ups and passes to Martial and for the third to lingard were from him
He opened those moments, today i saw a different and improved Lukaku

No it wasn't clear. If it was a two footed lunged challenge then yes, it was as clear as day. I'm not one of those fans who blindly defend a player. But this isn't clear at all. If Belerrin defended appropriately and blocked it with his feet and not with his calf, it would have been a yellow. The question is who would have thought he would defend it with his calf? His feet wasn't too far from the ground. The rules clearly stated that his feet has to be off the ground and force it to land in order to be called a stamp. This isn't. It should have been a yellow, unfortunately it wasn't his feet it was his calf.

For the record, I thought Lukaku did reasonably well today. He hasn't really been poor lately, just missed a few chances. And also I feel he should be able to hold on to the ball a bit better with his back against the goal at times. Jury is obviously still out though.

At best I'd give it a 10% chance of not being a red card. It wasn't shown, but the commentator mentioned the referee ran over to tell Mourinho that he had to give the red card before he actually brandished it. I believe the referee knew it was a very unfortunate incident and that no malice was intended. Hopefully there can be some mitigation and that it will only be a 1 match ban. Also, maybe the referee felt bad for us so he didn't give the very clear penalty against us late on.

I've been very consistent with my thought on this type of tackles. I don't know if you remember when Nani suffered a horrible injury by Jamie Caragher's horrible tackle. I got slacked here because I defended the ref decision by only giving him a yellow. Although I said it could have been a red card as well. These tackles were in a way very identical. But the ref has been consistently giving a yellow for this type of incident. Why a red card now? I'm using the same argument that the pundits used back then.

The only thing that is different is this time it was a calf. An unfortunate one, but given that type of tackles, it has always been a yellow.

City have only gone to Chelsea

Our league position is not as horrible as it looks. And if we can beat them, things will definitely look very different.

WAU, maybe I'm being overly critical, I just remember two instances in the first half when he lost the ball that way. And other times as well throughout the season. Like you say though, he's also done it well several times. I think he does it well when he's high up the field and we're likely to create a chance from it. The times I've seen him lose it is when he's dropped deep and it's as if he doesn't put 100 % effort into it. He's got good work ethic for us though, so not sure what's the issue. Could be my imagination also. But in any case, for me he has to improve further, but he's admitted as much himself.

Anyway, no big deal, we won and may have ourselves a to class 10 in Lingard. Seriously, what a player he's been for us lately.

DDG is must surely be the best goalkeeper in the world.

For that matter, I believe Carragher should have gotten a red card. So I'm consistent in my opinion as well =)

Anyway, red cards can be appealed right? I recall only yellows can't. Can we abuse the system and appeal and delay any ban until after the City game?

Well done lads! Great victory! Despite their dominance, the match should have been much more comfortable. Pogba at the end of 1st half should have found Lukaku or Martial and then in the second half Jesse should have had another one. I also was not happy that we defended so deep and let them attack like that. Big Dave was great as always but in all honesty he only had to make two great saves, Sanchez and Lukaku, the rest were routine saves for him!

As for the red card, I think it was harsh. Why the ref did not send of Koscielny. He was the lasy man and Lukaku would have been through .

Next week is a real test. Win that, and we may just be back in the title race. In contrary the season will be over.

Having endured idiosyncrasies of Jim fucking Beglin for 95 minutes, I am off to the pub for a deserved beer!
