Karim Benzema turned down the opportunity to play for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United to complete a move to his “dream” club, Real Madrid.
He has recently been asked whether he regretted that decision, given his poor form and Madrid’s early exit from the Champions League at the hands of his former club Lyon. Barcelona are currently top of the table and only have to beat relegation candidates, Valladolid, at home on the final day of the season to secure the title. Benzema was defiant though and claimed he had no regrets.
The World Cup provisional squads have been announced today and Benzema will be surprised to see his name is missing. Hatem Ben Arfa, his mate from his Lyon days, Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka are amongst those included. Patrick Vieira, whose move to City has been somewhat of a failure for him, although financially brilliant, has also missed out.
Benzema has scored just 9 goals in 32 games for Real Madrid this season, the same number of goals ol’ Mickey Owen scored for United, and he’s been injured since February.
No regrets? My arse.
