Sunderland have put in bids for Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and John O’Shea.

The reported figure is £12m and there is some indication that it has been accepted.

Wes Brown called the manager a “cunt” during the pre-season last summer and has barely played since. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s on his way out, although after being at the club since he was a kid, it’s sad to think of him wearing someone else’s shirt.

Darron Gibson turns 24 this year and after hopes he would turn around a less than impressive start in the United first time, like Darren Fletcher, it seems as though the manager is ready to cash in.

The biggest surprise is John O’Shea though, who has been United’s Mr Versatile for years. He’s had some stick off his own fans as much as anyone else, but we’ve grown to appreciate him as the years have gone by and the manager has depended on him time and again.

It’s hard to ignore what a loss they will be to our club. Neville, Scholes, Brown, O’Shea and Gibson have been at the club for years and have the United way ingrained in them, so to lose that presence in the dressing room, as well as in training and on the field, will be a big hit.

On the positive side, it looks as though United are freeing up a lot of money where wages are concerned, with the more experienced players amongst the highest earners at the club. This suggests that United are in for a busy summer and are readying themselves for a big salary or two to fork out for.

It also means the likes of Tom Cleverley and Ryan Tunnicliffe might have more room in to the squad to get a game, particularly in the cup competitions.

It looks as though Jonny Evans will remain at the club as he can be used centrally as well cover for the full-backs, whilst likely new signing Phil Jones can initially be used to plug the gaps left in the squad.
