Ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League game against Sheriff Tiraspol, Erik ten Hag has spoken to the press to confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to the squad.

In the recent 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotpsur, Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come off the bench to play then left the stadium before the final whistle. On what should have been a good day for United, beating a team above us in the table, plenty of the attention was given to Ronaldo’s poor behaviour. He took to social media afterwards, acknowledging his wrong-doing, but this didn’t stop him from being relegated to training with the Reserves and missing out on the matchday squad for the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Cristiano will be in the squad tomorrow and Rapha Varane isn’t in the squad. He will be out, certainly until the World Cup so he will not play in this block for Manchester United. I think so [Varane will play in the World Cup], but the prognosis we have to wait. We have to see how it develops, how the rehab will develop.

Ten Hag was pushed for details of the conversations he’s had with Ronaldo to resolve the situation but he was understandably reluctant to reveal all.

It’s not difficult but I think we set everything and we answered all the questions. So he was out for one game and now he is back in the squad as usual. I won’t answer anymore. So all the questions I think everything we covered last week, everything we explained so we have to focus on the game tomorrow. We have an important game because we want to be number one in the group so let’s focus on that. What I say, I don’t have to do it anymore. He is returning and focused on the game and that is important. Cristiano is involved in the game tomorrow.
