With tickets being sold at just £25 for adults and £5 for kids, Manchester City failed to sell out their first ever Champions League game last night.

The opposition were no minnows either, with Napoli finishing 3rd in Serie A last season and boasting the talent of Edinson Cavani, who was last season’s 2nd highest scorer.

After coming nowhere near close to selling out their allocation for Wembley in this summer’s Community Shield, and now failing to see out their club’s biggest game, how on earth can City fans claim Manchester is blue with a straight face? Only 41,426 bothered to show up last night (taking in to consideration the 2,600 Napoli fans adding to the overall attendance) which is embarrassing. Joke club, joke support.

In contrast, during the 1974-1975 season, when United were playing in Division 2, we had the highest average attendance in the country, of 48,389. That year in Division 1, Liverpool averaged 45,966 and City averaged 32,898.
