Manchester United travel to take on QPR on Saturday and will look to widen their advantage at the top of the Premier League to 15 points. With Manchester City and Chelsea playing each other on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have the chance to take one step closer to becoming champions of England. Although Premier League betting odds will be in United’s favour in this top against bottom clash, the hosts will be determined to pick up much-needed points.
United are in great form domestically at the moment, with the side picking up 38 points from a maximum 42 over the last 14 games. With participation in both the Champions League and FA Cup still, whispers of an epic treble are starting to circulate the club. However the first step must be to overcome a QPR side that are fighting for their top-flight lives.
It is only natural that United fans and players will have one eye on the return leg of their Champions League tie against Real Madrid, but the visiting team must not become distracted by the glamour tie. Although QPR have only won two games all season, they have recently held both Manchester City and Tottenham at home, and seem to have improved under Harry Redknapp’s stewardship.
There will be a few familiar faces in the home side’s line-up, with former United stalwart Park Ji-Sung and loanee Fabio potentially lining up for the London team. With the likes of Adel Taarabt, Esetban Granero and Djibril Cisse in their ranks, Rangers have a host of unpredictable players that could pose a threat to United if given space and time.
If United are in the right frame of mind there is no doubt that they will be too good for what has been a less than mediocre QPR this season. The Red Devils have the full week off after the game, with a home fixture against Norwich the following Saturday, and as such Sir Alex may well field a strong side. United will be keen to continue their excellent run of form, and with the likes of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney firing, should obtain three more points towards the title haul.
