This summer, it was claimed in the press that Antonio Valencia wasn’t fit to lace Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots, following his 7 goals in 3 seasons at Wigan. £16m was apparently too much to pay for the 23-year-old. Ten months later, people are having to eat their words, with the winger seemingly improving every week and him looking more and more like a United player as the season has gone on. He’s scored 5 goals in the league and assisted 9, with his strength and speed giving United a brilliant option down the right flank. He’s even started using his left foot! Brilliant signing and we’ve certainly yet to see the best of him.

Darren Fletcher was a player written off by our own fans as much as anyone else, with him seemingly out of his depth at United. But now, having just turned 26, Fletcher is one of our most important players and his work ethic is admired by all (with the exception of Wenger).

When Patrice Evra first signed for United, for a meagre £5.5m, he looked out of his depth. He got murdered on derby day and was written off as a flop.

When Cristiano Ronaldo left, the question was asked where United’s goals were going to come from. Wayne Rooney stepped up to plate and has scored 26 goals in 30 league appearances, and a total of 34 goals in 42 games in all competitions.

Well done lads, for proving everyone wrong!
